Construction has begun on Phase II of the 9A Baymeadows Regional Park which includes the tennis court complex. The $1.5 million project will include six clay courts, hard court and four pickle ball courts in addition to a small Pro Shop with bathrooms and showers. Expected completion date is late Spring/ early Summer of 2017.

In other news, the park was awarded a $100,000 grant from the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation this summer. The plans are to spend a total of approximately $300,000 to renovate the park’s two football fields upon he conclusion of the current football season. These renovations will include repair and leveling of grounds, irrigation enhancement and re-sodding.

CM Becton also announced that Phase III of the park construction has been included in the City of Jacksonville’s 2016-17 CIP budget. The total anticipated cost of $4,450,000 is anticipated to be funded in separate years starting in 2018-19 and then in 2020-21 to construct a four-field baseball complex. The 2018-19 funding will allow for design work to begin and it is CM Becton’s plan to reconvene the 9A Baymeadows Advisory Group to help in that endeavor.

Other future park initiatives that CM Becton is working on include a “Joint-Use” agreement with Duval County Public Schools. This would allow public access and use of athletic facilities including basketball courts and the track at Twin Lakes Middle School and the use of the open field space at Atlantic Coast High School. This initiative would allow for immediate availability of athletic facilities to the area residents with minimal additional costs to the city. Joint-Use agreements define the liability, security and operation responsibilities between the school system and the city for such use.
