Florida Teen Denied Bond After Brutal Attack on Mother’s Doctor Over Opioid Prescription

A Florida teen was seen on camera slamming his mother’s doctor to the ground after she was allegedly given painkiller prescriptions during a procedure earlier this year.

At Mount Sinai Hospital, 19-year-old Ventura del Castillo Perez addressed Dr. Steven Silvers, 69, his mother’s gynecologist. According to 7 News, Silvers allegedly administered painkillers to the suspects’ mother following an operation that took place in June.

“I was going to my office and, at 8:15 in the morning, I briefly had an interaction with this gentleman and then I turned to walk away and he jumped me from the back and beat me, and there’s clear video at Mount Sinai Hospital that shows this,” Silver told the court during Castillo’s trial.

“He was waiting in the hallway pacing, waiting for me and I know this because I had an international patient who was waiting in the area of the lobby by the elevators and she told my staff afterward, that she was very nervous as she saw this person walking up and down the hallways, up and down the hallways prior to me arriving,” Silvers said.

“My son is aware of my drug-related trauma,” Castillo’s mother, Carolina Perez, stated. “Being given a narcotic for me is something very, like I can’t [starts crying].”

She also stated in her testimony that she was unaware of her son’s intention to confront her doctor at the hospital.

The son of Dr. Steven Silvers, Brett Silvers, also provided testimony at the hearing, detailing the wounds his father had received in the assault.

In addition to six face fractures and two displaced fractures in his left sinus, my father also has a cribriform plate fracture at the base of his skull. He suffered fractures to his fourth, fifth, and sixth ribs in addition to three fractures to his right collar bone. Brett stated, “He has a brain bleed, a hematoma on his face, and a concussion.”

Castillo reported to the police that the attack was started when Silvers first grabbed him.

“He grabbed my phone and then grabbed my arm to try to keep me from leaving,” said Castillo.

“Then I grabbed the body lock, I lifted, and [unintelligible] he cracked his head by the lockers,” he said.

After viewing the CCTV footage, the judge, who described the attack as “savage,” rejected Castillo’s account of what happened.

To be honest, I didn’t witness the doctor grabbing him. Judge Alberto Milian of the 11th Judicial Circuit Court stated, “This was a vicious, brutal attack on a 69-year-old man, according to the testimony, who may have other recurring problems.” It’s conceivable that the doctor was attempting to stop him from leaving so they could speak with him further.

Castillo is charged with both battery on an emergency medical care provider and aggravated battery. Bond has been refused to him.
