Jacksonville FL (April 6, 2017) Elected officials will be developing calluses and sore backs with all of the groundbreakings Wawa has planned for our Northeast Florida over the next five years. The upscale convenience store chain has plans for 40 new stores in the area.
On April 6, 2017, District 11 Council Member Becton helped perform the ceremonial ground breaking for the very first of two Wawa Stores in Northeast Florida on Gate Parkway at the Town Center. Becton was joined by District Council Members Scott Wilson and Matt Schellenberg. The other Jacksonville store under construction is located at Wilson Boulevard and Lane Avenue. Both are set to open in the spring of 2018.
The first new stores will be in Duval and Clay Counties with others later being constructed in St. Johns County. Each store costs an estimated $6 million to build and employs 40 full and part-time positions.
The Pennsylvania chain has 115 stores in Florida since opening the first in Orlando in 2012.
Besides gasoline and the usual convenience store items, Wawa is a leader in made-to-order hoagies, breakfast sandwiches and specialty beverages.
