On October 24, 2019, Binderim made two phone calls to the 65-year-old homeowner before going to a hardware store to purchase supplies. The following day, the homeowner vanished.
On October 14, almost five years later, Binderman sat in a state of utter emotional detachment as he was pronounced guilty of homicide.
In her opening remarks last week, state attorney Ashley Terry characterized Binderman as a seemingly reputable contractor who callously discarded Mauldin, treating her like disposable trash.
Binderman faced a conviction on three serious charges: first-degree murder, assault, and battery during a burglary, and destroying evidence. The verdict was reached on October 14, resulting in significant legal consequences. Fortunately, he managed to escape the death penalty by a narrow margin. Instead, the jury recommended a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Mauldin mysteriously disappears. Mauldin was scheduled to meet with Binderim to discuss seeking compensation for her incomplete bathroom renovation.
According to court documents, Binderim was contracted to renovate Mauldin’s bathroom for $12,000. However, he failed to complete the job or even start working on it as expected. When detectives questioned Binderim, he surprisingly stated that he thought the project would only cost $1,200.
According to prosecutors, she was set to confront the contractor with an ultimatum the day before her disappearance on October 23, 2019. This ultimatum would involve a warning of potential criminal and legal consequences.
During the trial, a staff member named Leigh Stansbury testified that weeks before the murder, Binderim had made a joke about where to bury a body. At the time, she was unaware of the significance of this comment.
On October 24, 2019, Mauldin inexplicably disappeared. By 9am, he reached the Rosemary Hill Waste Management transfer facility located in Clay County. From there, the garbage was transported to a facility in Folkston, Georgia.
According to prosecutors, he then went back to his storage unit before making another trip to the hardware store.
On October 25, 2019, Mauldin’s friend made a report about her disappearance.
Evidence continues to accumulate According to Duval County jail records, Binderim was arrested on a forgery charge in December 2019 and was subsequently detained with a bond set at $50,000.
Authorities had been investigating the death of the victim since November 2019, and Binderim had been a person of interest in the case. However, it was completely separate from the missing Mauldin case.
Binderim’s arms were adorned with deep scratches.
During a search of Binderim’s storage unit, a K-9 unit detected a smell of decomposition emanating from a tool bag that had previously been located inside Mauldin’s home.
