According to Miami-Dade Police, a Kendall woman is in critical condition after being shot by her ex-husband inside a residence on Sunday morning.
Around 3:30 a.m., officers were called to a home in the 6200 block of Southwest 109th Avenue. A tenant had arrived home to discover a significant amount of blood on the floor and a woman with gunshot wounds, according to an arrest report.
The victim was taken by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a hospital in the vicinity. According to the police, she had to undergo surgery for gunshot injuries to her torso, extremities, and buttocks.
After the shooting, a man called the Hialeah Police and confessed his involvement in the Kendall shooting. The man was later identified as Pedro Nunez, the ex-husband of the woman involved.
The victim, despite going in and out of consciousness, was able to inform the officers that her ex-husband was the one responsible for the shooting, as stated in the report.
According to MDPD, Nunez has been transferred to the custody of the Miami-Dade Police Department, where their Domestic Violence detectives will now lead the investigation.
Maria Perez, a neighbor, reported hearing disturbing sounds that morning, according to NBC6.
“I could hear a woman screaming, and it wasn’t just the usual party screams. It was more intense, like she was really in distress,” Perez recounted.
Nunez, who is 47 years old, is facing charges of attempted felony murder. His ex-wife is currently in critical condition, and she is still battling for her life. Another surgery has been scheduled for her on Monday.
According to authorities, the police have confirmed that the former couple has a 10-year-old child together.
