A tire shop owner in northwest Miami-Dade County, aged 72, was taken into custody on Thursday for attempting to bribe a county inspector who had issued a fine against him, as per authorities.
The Miami-Dade Police Department arrest report states that the inspector paid a visit to Villaman Tires, situated at 4757 NW 183rd St., on Thursday. During the inspection, the business owner, Jose Ines Villaman, received a citation for operating with an expired business license. The citation amounted to $500.
After receiving the citation, Villaman requested the inspector to accompany him to his office, away from the public’s eyes, police reported.
According to authorities, Villaman attempted to hand over an undisclosed sum of money to the inspector.
According to the police, Villaman made multiple attempts to convince the inspector to accept the money, but the inspector consistently refused.
After the incident, the inspector promptly exited the establishment and informed his supervisor about Villaman’s attempted bribery, as stated in the report.
According to the publicly released report, Villaman allegedly gave a statement to detectives regarding the incident. However, the details of his statement have been redacted.
Villaman is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with a bond set at $5,000, as of Friday afternoon.
