The defendant allegedly left her twin 7-year-old special needs children and their 10-year-old sibling behind while she took a plane to another state, according to the prosecution. According to court documents, the parent abandoned her kids for a few days in February of this year.
When the woman’s child informed her teacher that she was at home alone with her siblings and their parent was someplace else, the investigation got underway. Additionally, the child informed the teacher that their parent had called them via video and set up a delivery service for food.
The worried teacher informed the authorities by dialing 911. When the children were contacted by the responding policemen, they allegedly maintained that their mother had not abandoned them, but the authorities did not accept this.
The family member of the children was contacted shortly after by the responding cops, and she allegedly informed them that her daughter had failed to notify her that she was going out of state. The worried granny reportedly assured authorities that if asked, she would look after the girls.
The parent allegedly informed police that “she thought her eldest child, 10, could provide care for the other two girls while she was not at home” when they contacted her a few days later. In addition, the woman stated that she never traveled outside of the state. Authorities learned over the course of the inquiry that the woman had left for Florida the day before the 911 call. The woman allegedly acknowledged going to Florida “to support a friend undergoing Iiposuction surgery” in a follow-up interview with police.
