Two individuals lost their lives on Wednesday afternoon in California City after their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer, according to the California City Police Department. The incident occurred on the 9500 block of California City Boulevard, and officers responded to the crash scene around 4:40 p.m. The collision involved a small SUV and a tractor-trailer.
Upon their arrival, emergency responders discovered a Subaru Outback trapped beneath the trailer of the truck. The Cal City Fire Department and Hall Ambulance personnel were quick to confirm the unfortunate news that two adults had lost their lives in the incident.
According to the police, they conducted an investigation which involved examining physical evidence and gathering witness statements. The investigation revealed that the driver of the Subaru, who was traveling westbound, collided with the left side of the tractor-trailer as it was backing into the parking lot of Family Dollar on California City Boulevard to make deliveries.
The severity of the crash prompted the involvement of the California Highway Patrol, according to officials.
The California City police currently do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The police are not disclosing the identities of the individuals in order to inform their families, stated law enforcement officials. The California City Police is currently conducting an investigation.
