According to authorities, the U.S. Coast Guard stopped two Miami men near Islamorada and they are now facing charges of human trafficking.
On July 15, the Coast Guard apprehended Oscar Alfredo Bustamante-Semeren, 29, and Alejandro Gauche-Valdez, 35, after intercepting their boat in the vicinity of Mile Marker 86.
Both men are currently incarcerated in Miami on unrelated charges, and Monroe County has issued warrants for their arrest.
Sheriff Rick Ramsay expressed his disappointment with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their lack of action in pursuing the offenders, even as law enforcement diligently carried out the investigation.
Sheriff Rick Ramsay praised Sgt. Joel Slough, the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office, and their law enforcement partners for their exceptional work in apprehending the two criminals. Despite the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s failure to fulfill its duties, Sheriff Ramsay emphasized their commitment to combating crime. He expressed his disappointment in the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s lack of action against human trafficking offenders, who continue to cause chaos in their community and others.
According to MCSO, Bustamante-Semeren is also associated with the Venezuelan gang known as “Tren De Aragua.”
